What is presented in these videos is the minimum amount of information that I believe Physics 1 students need to know to be successful, and no more than that.  But to master the subject means to master each content video one at a time. 

Every topic builds off the previous. 

You cannot be successful with Unit 5 if you do not fully understand Units 1-4.  This curriculum is designed with the AP Physics 1 exam in mind, but the sequencing does not follow College Board’s sequencing exactly.  I believe some of the longer units should be split up into smaller, more manageable chunks.

Six steps, repeated for every topic

Learning physics is like learning how to use all of the tools in a toolbox. The goal is to learn each tool one at a time — how to use it, when to use it, and why to use it. On exams you will be solving problems you have never seen before, so it matters that you know the tools available to you rather than relying on memorized solutions from past papers.

Watch the content video

Each video teaches a small number of tools: equations, diagrams, terminology, or physics laws.

Watch the whole thing and make sure each key point lands. When a video asks you to pause and try a problem, try it. Students learn more by doing physics than by watching physics. Even if you get it wrong, the solution sticks better for having thought it through yourself.

Attempt the practice worksheet

The worksheet tests the tools from that video and nothing else.

These are not the hardest problems you will ever see — the point is to find the holes in your understanding while they are still small. Problems marked "challenging" are optional. The "standard level" problems represent what is commonly seen in Physics 1 courses.

On most physics exams, partial credit comes from using the correct tools. Don't aim for perfect. Can you get some of it right? Can you get more than a zero?

Check the quick answer key

Answers only, no explanations.

Got it right? Move on. Missed one? Don't give up that fast. The students who go back and correct their own mistakes are the ones who remember what not to do next time. Try it again once or twice and see if you can reach the listed answer on your own.

If you can't, that's fine. Physics is hard. Go to step 4.

Watch the video solutions

For any problem you couldn't solve, watch me work through it start to finish, showing every tool and every solving step.

Then do it again yourself, from scratch. Watching me do physics will make you feel like you understand. Repeating the steps on your own will ensure your understanding.

Take the unit practice exam

At the end of each major unit, it's time to be tested properly.

The practice exams and sample multiple choice and free response questions check three things at once: whether you can use the tools, whether you can pick the right tool without being told which one, and whether you still remember the units that came before.

Each has a recommended time limit and reflects what you'll see on your own class assessments. By this point you should be ready for anything assigned in class.

Do I need to be taking AP Physics 1?

No. The curriculum was built around the AP Physics 1 exam because that's the most demanding version of the course, but the physics is the same physics. If you're in a regular or honors high school course, or an introductory college one, everything here applies.
